As the Delhi Chalo March progressed at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday morning, tensions escalated as tear gas shells were fired at the advancing farmers, prompting chaos at the scene.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher intervened, appealing to protesters to halt their advance. However, discussions between farmers and the government hit an impasse, with farmers pressing for immediate action on their demands, which involve complex legal considerations.

Among the contentious issues is the Electricity Amendment Act of 2013, with the government questioning the need for changes given existing provisions for free electricity in Punjab. Meanwhile, the government offered assurances regarding MSP for crops, particularly pulses, which are being heavily imported.
